Early voting now open in Palmer, Houston and Wasilla city elections

Early voting now open in Palmer, Houston and Wasilla city elections

What you need to know:

  • Early voting opened Monday in Wasilla, Houston and Palmer. Voting is open weekdays in all three cities through Oct. 6; Wasilla voters can also early vote on Saturdays.
  • Voters will elect city council members in all three cities, a new mayor in Palmer, and decide on ballot questions in Palmer and Houston. Wasilla has no ballot propositions.
  • Voters can still register for an absentee ballot in all three cities, with deadlines varying by location. Election Day is scheduled for Oct. 7.

WASILLA — Early voting opened Monday for the Oct. 7 city elections in Wasilla, Houston and Palmer.

Voters will select a new mayor in Palmer and council members in all three cities. Voters in Palmer and Houston will also weigh in on ballot questions.

Voters must live within the limits of the city to vote in the election there. Learn how to know whether you live in city limits.

Early voting is open on weekdays for registered city voters at Wasilla and Houston city halls from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and at Palmer City Hall from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Oct. 6.  

Wasilla voters may also vote early on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Voters can also participate through absentee ballots. In Palmer, absentee ballot requests must be submitted by Sept. 26. In Houston, they must be received by Sept. 29. In Wasilla, they must be received by Sept. 30. 

On Election Day, polls are open in each city from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Houston voters cast ballots at Houston City Hall. Voters in Wasilla and Palmer vote at their assigned precincts. Precinct information is available on the Palmer and Wasilla city websites.

In Houston, voters will decide three City Council races and four ballot questions.

In Palmer, voters will elect a new mayor, two candidates for three-year city council terms, and one candidate for a one-year term. They will also vote on one ballot question.

In Wasilla, voters will choose candidates for three City Council seats. No propositions are scheduled to appear on the Wasilla ballot.
