The Mat-Su Sentinel has launched two new online tools designed to make it easier for residents to stay informed and engaged: a community calendar and a public meetings calendar.
The calendars are part of the Sentinel’s ongoing effort to improve access to local information and strengthen civic participation across the Mat-Su. They also respond directly to community requests for more event coverage and information.
The community calendar highlights a wide range of nonpartisan local events, including festivals, fundraisers, workshops, performances and nonprofit activities. Community members can submit events directly through the Sentinel’s website, giving organizers a free, centralized way to share what’s happening in the Mat-Su.
The calendar is designed to be spam-free and automatically aggregates many events from across the region. It is available through the support of the Rasmuson Foundation.
“Our goal is to create a single, reliable place where people can find out what’s going on in their communities,” said Sentinel founder and editor Amy Bushatz. “There’s a lot happening in the Mat-Su, and this calendar helps bring it all together.”
The public meetings calendar focuses on local government and civic meetings, including the Mat-Su Borough Assembly, school board, community councils, commissions, city councils and advisory committees. It is intended to help residents track when and where decisions are being made, and how to participate, whether in person or remotely.
Meeting listings include dates, times, locations and, when available, links to agendas or virtual meeting information. The Sentinel will update the calendar regularly as schedules change or new meetings are announced.
Both calendars are free to use and can be accessed from the "calendar" drop-down menu on the Sentinel's homepage. They are searchable and organized by date, making it easier for readers to plan ahead.
The Sentinel encourages local governments, organizations and residents to submit accurate and timely information to keep the calendars current. Submitted events and meetings are reviewed before publication to ensure clarity and relevance.
By launching the calendars, the Mat-Su Sentinel aims to support transparency, community connection and informed participation in local life.
The community calendar and public meetings calendar are now live on the Mat-Su Sentinel website.
