MatSu Valley Planning for Transportation
MTP 2050 - Vision, Goals, & Objectives
Notice of 30-Day Public Comment Period
October 24, 2025 – November 24, 2025
About us: MatSu Valley Planning for Transportation (MVP) is the newly designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Mat-Su Valley. Established in 2023 as a non-profit organization, MVP was formed following the federal designation of the Wasilla—Knik-Fairview—North Lakes area as an Urbanized Area. Federal law mandates the creation of an MPO for any urbanized area with a population exceeding 50,000.
MVP’s mission is to support local transportation planning within the metropolitan area. This includes developing long-term transportation plans, the MTP, and short-term capital spending plans, referred to as the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).
MVP is responsible for developing transportation plans and policies, setting priorities for the use of federal transportation funds, and providing a collaborative forum for regional decision-making.
MVP is in the process of developing their Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) that will lay out the region’s long-range transportation goals. As part of that effort, MVP has developed a vision statement along with goals and objectives for achieving this vision.
MVP is seeking public feedback on the Draft Vison, Goals and Objectives. We encourage residents, businesses, and community stakeholders to review these and share their thoughts on our proposed vison, goals, and objectives and let us know if we left out any core elements? Is there something else we should be considering?
