Bri Parrent and the Colony flag football team didn’t get the ending they wanted after losing in the state title game, but she received a prestigious consolation prize this week after being named MaxPreps Alaska Player of the Year.

The sophomore signal caller ranked among the national leaders in total yards and touchdowns this season as she broke the state’s single-season scoring record with 533 points.

Parrent finished her season ranked No. 1 nationally with 8,828 yards – 6,397 passing and 2,431 rushing. She scored 94 touchdowns and was a threat to score on any given snap. She lined up in shotgun and was so effective that the Knights didn’t even have a running back, opting for another wide receiver instead.

She was also a force on defense with 103 flag pulls and special teams, returning a punt 67 yards for a TD against North Pole in a 26-21 loss in the state title game.
