In celebration of our country’s 250th semiquincentennial anniversary, a special community ceremony will be conducted at St. John’s Lutheran Church on the Green in Palmer on July 4 at 3 p.m.

The unique event will pay tribute to our monumental national milestone with an authentic and genuine flair.

Highlights include flag review pageantry; patriotic songs; music; recitation and rededication of the Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights founding documents; poetry readings honoring the emotions of the time; field cannon firings; black powder musket volleys; a period firearm display; an Abigail Adams retrospective; and Sam Adams and other presenters in character wearing period clothing.

As part of a modern twist on an actual Revolutionary War battle, a historical war game will be available for all ages. For youth, we offer face painting and a colonial-era coloring book.

We are seeking and inviting descendants of the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution to attend and be recognized; a flutist or fifer to accompany the drummer; a mounted rider depicting an era character; historic artifact displays; and folks in period attire.

Other ideas and/or contributions will be entertained no later than June 14, Flag Day.

Recommended dress for participants is “all-American red, white and blue.” Bring a comfortable lawn chair. If it rains, activities will be held inside. Hot dogs and refreshments will be provided after the festivities.

Our host is St. John’s Lutheran Church Senior Assistance Ministry program.

This is a free, family-friendly, one-of-a-kind Americanism celebration. Join fellow patriots, historians and neighbors as we briefly step into the past and share a memorable and appropriate 250th anniversary gala in Palmer!
